Upheal and Mentalyc both draft therapy notes from a session recording or from dictated or typed input, as listed on each company's pricing page (Upheal, Mentalyc, checked October 29, 2026). Going by their own pages, they differ most in what surrounds the note. Upheal's home page says: "Move your whole practice to Upheal's EHR when you're ready." Mentalyc's home page says it "works with any EHR, or none", and its pricing page lists alliance feedback, worksheet suggestions and supervision notes. Everything below about either company is quoted from, or listed as shown on, that company's own pages on the date checked.

What Upheal is

Upheal says, on its home page, that it "is an AI-native EHR for therapists and group practices." The same page says you can "Start with AI therapy notes alongside your current EHR" and, "When you're ready, move your whole practice to Upheal's EHR, with scheduling, insurance billing, client payments, telehealth and a client portal in one place." On capture, it says: "Record your session in person or online, or dictate afterward." Upheal's pricing page adds: "Dictate or type brief observations from your session to receive a structured note." As listed on those two pages (checked October 29, 2026), Upheal also offers 30+ note templates, custom templates built from "170+ preset note sections", "Treatment Plans with Golden Thread", a checker that reviews notes against payer requirements before you sign, analytics of "talking ratio, cadence, sentiment, and more", and an AI Assistant.

Privacy, in Upheal's words. Upheal's pricing page says: "For maximum privacy, all session audio is automatically deleted once you get your notes. Of course, you can still choose to save it." For its full statements, read Upheal's privacy page.

What Mentalyc is

Mentalyc says, on its home page, that it "works with any EHR, or none", and that "Every session updates clinical notes, plan, progress and alliance". Privacy, in Mentalyc's words. Mentalyc's security page says: "Mentalyc temporarily uses your session recording to create a transcript. The audio is deleted once your note is ready." For its full statements, read the rest of that page.

Where Reframe fits

Reframe is a third option with a narrower job. It drafts progress notes from shorthand you type, with no recording, in SOAP, DAP, BIRP, GIRP, PIRP or narrative format, plus a saved custom format. It is a web app that runs in your browser. Reframe processes your session text to draft the note and does not store it on its servers. A free account includes 20 free notes every 30 days, with no credit card.
